Community Response Against Violent Extremism and for Peace (CRAVE4Peace) is a broader research program that explored ways communities along Ghana’s western frontiers can be retooled into agents of peace and security through their existing activities.
With funding from the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) through the African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and leveraging the support of the Institute for Peace and Development (IPD), Tamale, the research was carried out in selected communities in Nandom Municipality and Lambusie-Karnie District of the Upper West Region of Ghana. These are MMDAs located along the Burkina-Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire Border.
The summary report below highlights findings from the research conducted through our engagement with a broad range of community actors, including itinerant traders, hunters, and cross-border transport service operators, to ascertain what they know about VE and how prepared they are to take actions that avert the incidence or mitigate the impact of VE activities in and through the communities.
